We returned home again and are now definitely safe. This morning brought good news. People who wanted to harm me (you can read about this story on our website) were arrested today. This is very good news for us and we can now continue with our plan to leave Ukraine.
While I was waiting for this news, I helped other people and distributed humanitarian aid. This takes quite a long time. We have to stand in line for several hours to send parcels.
I gave some of the help to volunteers, but they are very busy and will only be able to breed food parcels next week.
There are big problems with gasoline in Kyiv and therefore it is not always possible to use the car. However, we use bicycles and just take big bags on wheels.
Due to such a busy schedule, I can’t often go to Facebook and read your warm and such kind comments with wishes. However, I can do it in the evening and early in the morning while I wait for the curfew to end.
On Roxy's condition: She's fine, but she's become very mischievous and spoiled. A couple of days ago, I was finally able to pick up travel cages from the postal warehouse.
Yesterday I collected one of them and tried to cage Roxy. She categorically refused to enter this cage and bit me very hard. Roxy hissed like a snake and beat her wings. I have never seen her behave like this. For the second day, Roxy has been drinking chamomile tea instead of water. Tomorrow I will try again to put her in this travel cage. Can any of you tell me how best to put her in this cage?
About the situation in Kyiv: There was heavy shelling again tonight, perhaps it was revenge for the Russian cruiser “Moscow” that was sunk yesterday.
Today the sun is bright in the city and many people have taken to the streets. Yesterday many people did the cleaning. We are also preparing for Easter and putting everything in order.
Thank you all so much for your support and prayers and for your concern for us. We do not give up and slowly move according to the plan.
Sending love and good luck to everyone! XoXo
Best wishes,
Sergii & Roxy
I have the hard plastic Petmate carrier with the metal windows. Yeti loves dark cavelike places, so he always loves to go into it. I always put a few of his toys in there, and on long trips he has almonds and carrots to munch on, and sometimes small blocks of wood to chomp on. But Yeti is a male, and they may be more likely to think of it as a possible nesting location and be eager to get the nest ready. Sending Love to you & Roxy!
So good to hear that you and Roxy are ok and the evil ones were arrested! I too have difficulty in getting my birds into travel cages. I have succeeded on many occasions by putting their favourite treats in the cage and leaving it near them with the door open. Once they are in the cage they settle down and don’t seem to mind travelling. Your work helping others under the difficult circumstances must be really appreciated by those who benefit from it. Keep safe and prayers and thoughts for you all.
Sergii, it's so good to hear you are all still doing good. Regarding Roxy's travel cage, maybe put it on top of her cage, leave the door open (if it doesn't scare her), place her favourite food/treats in there and water and a toy. Things that will be in there for your trip. Let her check it out on her own and give lots of "good girl" praises. Or place it where she plays most with the same objects I mentioned before. Don't really make it the big focus, you can interact with her in passing, but let her check it out on her own and climb in and out. If an emergency rises and you have to leave q…
It is so good to hear from you. I am delighted that those who tried to block and harm you are being dealt with. I hope things can now move efficiently, swiftly and safely.
Poor Roxy, the stress is getting to her. I use a cushion when I need get my African Grey into a travel cage - but the cushion is the way I carry and move her around day-to-day; transportation for a spoiled bird 😅
I hope you find a way to get Roxy into the cage without fuss and stress. Can you try putting a treat inside to see if that can coax her in?
I hope everything begins to fall into place; there must be so…
I am so happy you are ok!! Sending much love to you and Roxi!
