Our news: Monday 28 February 2022, Kyiv
My dear friends, Roxy and I are back in touch. We are fine and we are safe. My father's parrot and he is also fine.
Last night was calmer than the previous ones. There were only a few shellings in my area. We were allowed to leave the bomb shelter for a few hours, but shelling could start at any moment.
I immediately let Roxy out for a walk and gave her different food. She ate well. Chamomile tea is no longer available.
Today in Kyiv the weather is good, the sun is shining brightly. However, there is a very ominous silence and no one is on the street.
A bit from Roxy: As you already understood, Roxy is a Moluccan cockatoo and she hatched on April 10, 2017 in the Czech Republic, where I was born and lived for the first 8 years.
It was very hard for me to get her. I was on the waiting list of a Czech kennel for two years before I bought her. There are no bird shelters in Ukraine. To come to Ukraine, Roxy endured a long trip and quarantine.
We immediately liked each other. I developed a strong emotional attachment to this feathered princess, as she helped me out of a severe depression after my mother's death and divorce.
I tried to create the best conditions for Roxy. I bought a country house, equipped a bird room there and an aviary in the yard so that it could fly. We were supposed to move to a new house this spring. It is unfortunate that the plans have been put on hold for the time being.
Regarding financial and other material assistance: I thank you for all your suggestions, but we are still managing on our own. I’m used to making donations myself and have never asked for such help before. We have food supplies for a month, maybe more, and for Roxy I bought food for 8-10 months.
I also talked yesterday with several owners of parrots who remained in Kyiv. They all also thanked and can last a month or two without help. So far, no one wants to leave Kyiv either. However, everyone is ready to leave if the assault on the city begins.
My health has improved as I was able to get more sleep today and have been energized by your support and prayers.
This situation showed how unstable any well-being is, that everything can change, and also that people can be very kind and yet … All of you should love your feathered babies even more, make their lives better and give them more of your attention. Go ahead and kiss them right now!
Again they announced an air raid alert and I have to return to the basement.
Thank you all for the thousands of words of support and care, as well as prayers.
P.S. We will stand and tomorrow we will continue to tell our story. Please excuse me for not answering and thanking everyone right away or not. I try to conserve battery life. However, I read all your wishes and recommendations. I kiss and hug everyone! XoXo
